Family History of Disease

13 July 2014

Holy Bible

Go to the doctor, what do they ask?

Family history of disease for generations!

Hosea 4:6—-My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:  because thou has rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me:  seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Wow!  Is that another one of God’s truths?  Forgetting the law of God causes God to forget us and also our children!  Remember, God is not bound by time.  He is a just Judge who will not allow law breakers to run rampant forever.  His blessings or curses lasts for generations until someone “stands in the gap” and says, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”!  Then, blessings can flow again.

1 Chronicles 16:11 – Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

The same chapter reminds us to be always mindful of God’s covenant of blessings or curses to a thousand generations.  Just like any loving parent—His judgments are just and are dependent upon our level of obedience to his ways.

Isaiah 59:1-2  Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.………BUT your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Is that saying that God could answer, but He just might not answer quickly, until WE deal with the sin that separates us from Him?

Might that also suggest that we WILL receive God’s hand and ear when we are ready and willing to do things God’s way!

I can only imagine Father God stretching out his open hand as He leans His ear in close to hear us, His children, as we confess and turn away from our sins!  Then, gives us a big hug of forgiveness!

Is 1 Chronicles 16:11 saying to seek the Lord, and the strength of the Lord and his face with an attitude of surrendering our lives to God continually?  What would this continual surrendering to God be called?

Leading to forgiveness>

Leading to God reaching out a helping hand to the repentant believer>

Leading to God listening>

Leading to a meaningful two-way relationship with God>

Leading to God remembering us and our children and removing the generationally inherited sins and diseases caused by us forgetting the law of God!

This is NOT a formula to get what we want from God, but a daily process of building a relationship with God.  It’s the same process of a repentant child doing wrong, being corrected, accepting the correction and both the parent and the child being blessed because of the change!

My Prayer:  I choose this day to follow the law of God and not to follow the law of sin working in my members.  I choose to move forward in my life  in the freedom provided by the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.  I believe Romans 8:1:  “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”  Amen.

Consider adapting this prayer of repentance* for your own use:

    1. Father God, I realize that my family members before me, even my parents, have influenced me to sin against you, God.  We have passed down sinful ways and ungodly beliefs for generations.  We have hung onto hurts and have allowed ungodly strongholds to control us for generations.
    2. According to Hosea 4:6, forgetting the law of God causes You, God, to “forget the children”.   I’m beginning to consider that the sins of my people before me and also my own sins have brought the law of sin ( Romans Chapters 7 and 8)  into my life.
    3. I admit that I, and my ancestors, have forgotten the laws of God.
    4. The Bible says that if I forgive others, then You will forgive me.  So, I choose to forgive and release my ancestors, my parents and all others who have influenced me to sin against you, God.
    5. I ask You to forgive me, Lord, for these sins of not thinking like You and not acting like you.  I have yielded to these sins.
    6. But now, Lord, I will confess each sin out loud and help me to fully repent of it.
    7. I confess the sin of _____________ and I will stop this sin and not return to this sin.
    8. (Go to for a summary of sins in the Bible.)
    9. I place this sin under the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
    10. I receive your forgiveness, because the Word says that when I confess my sins, you are faithful and just to forgive me my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
    11. I thank you, God, for breaking the consequences of this sin from my life (and from the lives of my descendants) through the redemptive work of Christ on the Cross.
    12. I receive God’s freedom from this sin.
    13. I thank you God that the resulting consequences of this sin are now removed.
    14. Now that these areas of sin are under the blood of Jesus Christ, I now receive the blessings you have for me and allow your blessings to flow to the generations after me, Lord.
    15. Thank you, God, for loving me and my family!
