His GloryAt Your Service

Let’s talk about the last supper that Jesus had with his closest followers. This supper was a very well planned out intimate dinner. Jesus had the room in the house in mind and had a very specific way to prepare it for this occasion.

Luke 22:8-12 NLT Jesus sent Peter and John ahead and said, “Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together.”

“Where do you want us to prepare it?” they asked him.  He replied, “As soon as you enter Jerusalem, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you.  Follow him.  At the house he enters, say to the owner, `The Teacher asks:  Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’  He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal.”

VIP only, no one was invited except the twelve, no Pharisees, no general public, not even His mother or any of the others that followed the crowds. He wanted everything perfect, down to the very last detail, most important was the first detail.

In Luke 22:15 He told them; “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”

But did he forget one tiny little detail?  Where was the servant who would wash all their feet as they entered the Passover room from the dirty dusty road?  That would be fully expected and yet there was no one there to greet them at the door.  Where is the servant, how could He have missed that important detail?

Actually, that detail was planned before any other.  HE would wash their feet himself.  They were about to meet the greatest servant of all.

John 13:5 “Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.”

The significance was not lost on them,  Peter even resisted when Jesus said that He would be the one washing their feet.  Jesus had a big lesson about essentials in mind for the twelve and those who would follow Him afterward in that intimate supper relationship.

John 13:14 “If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

My prayer is that we as Christ followers would take this perfect example of servant hood and run with. Become caring and passionate for one another as Jesus displayed passion toward us.

All my love Sharon~~
